CHARLES WALKER
Number By Heart
ZNCD 1019
It has been said that 'soul music' as it was performed in its heyday
is on its way back; For Charles Walker it never went away, it just
had to be rediscovered. With a stop-start career that spans back to
the end of the 50s, Charles is the real deal, a soul survivor.
Given a chance to work with such a talented and genuine performer,
it was just a question of getting the feel right. But then thats
what Zane is all about. For 'Number By Heart' the set up was perfect,
with Producer/Guitarist Fred James at the helm, the more than solid
contributions of all the studio players, and not least the total commitment
of Charles to the project, it was all recorded and mixed in little
over a week. Work quickly, no frills just the feel, became the mantra.
The songs were selected from a clutch of new originals, along with
three additional hand picked cover cuts. We all feel we have accomplished
what we set out to do and set that soul revival in motion. Check it
out for yourself.
